Semana 66 (A God of Miracles)

Buenas!!!

This week started off with an intercambios with Elder Owens!! It was a lot of fun! We had a great day, and a member fed us some super amazing tasting pizza!! I've never had corn on pizza before, but I would recommend!

An interesting moment happened with Yasuani, one of our investigators. Her husband is an inactive member who is trying to share the gospel which is amazing, it's just that he doesn't quite understand how to keep it simple. He sorta just tells her really random things about the gospel.

Yasuani said to us "I have some doubts and questions."

So naturally I asked "ok, what are they?"

She then proceeded to say "I've just gotten a little confused with all the information. And I was watching Youtube, (big red flag), and they talk really, really bad about Joseph Smith, just horrible."

I was about to jump in and say something quickly to try and save everything, but she just said "So, I decided that it is better just to read the book and ask God!"

What a huge miracle!!!

We had Thanksgiving as a District! Kind of? Imma be honest I had forgotten about Thanksgiving for a second there... but it was a fun time!

We were walking when we heard a loud noise from behind us... knowing exactly what was about to happen, we started to sprint as fast as we could for shelter. Sure enough, out of nowhere, it started raining like crazy!!! Nothing is scarier than the sound of rain chasing you 😂

Had a sports night which was super fun! We played volleyball! The thing is, there are a ton of Kunas here. And they are super short. So I literally was destroying them! Spiking and blocking everything! Such a fun time!

Our inactive friend came to church! He is one of my favorite people in Panama for sure!! So hype!

This week's thought has to do with how miracles occur! I was reading a lot about faith, and the examples of those who had faith, and had miracles happen. Now faith is not the only part to miracles. In Alma 32 we read

40 And thus, if ye will not nourish the word, looking forward with an eye of faith to the fruit thereof, ye can never pluck of the fruit of the tree of life.

41 But if ye will nourish the word, yea, nourish the tree as it beginneth to grow, by your faith with great diligence, and with patience, looking forward to the fruit thereof, it shall take root; and behold it shall be a tree springing up unto everlasting life.

42 And because of your diligence and your faith and your patience with the word in nourishing it, that it may take root in you, behold, by and by ye shall pluck the fruit thereof, which is most precious, which is sweet above all that is sweet, and which is white above all that is white, yea, and pure above all that is pure; and ye shall feast upon this fruit even until ye are filled, that ye hunger not, neither shall ye thirst.

43 Then, my brethren, ye shall reap the rewards of your faith, and your diligence, and patience, and long-suffering, waiting for the tree to bring forth fruit unto you.

Thus it is so with miracles! We must have an eye of faith, trusting in God and His miracles! But we must also work diligently to nourish and do our part for these miracles! Then with some patience, in God's time, He will bring to pass miracles into our lives, and the lives of others! I truly have seen this, not only in the scriptures, but in my mission as well!

God is good! God is a God of miracles! Have faith! Have diligence! And have patience! I love you all! Pray for my people! Until Next Week!

Semana 66

Elder Lutze,

I feel like you know everything from this week!

We helped dad with a few projects at the house! Drywall up, wall cleaned and drywall down, ceiling framing, HVAC and cleaning! Still pondering the entertainment center design. We’re getting closer to insulation and drywall…maybe before you’re home?! 🏡

We did watch the BYU Women’s soccer ⚽️ game Elite 8 against NC. In the first 20 minutes we were down three points. Then in the 61st minute we scored a goal, again in the 81st 82nd and 89th to win the game. It was insane. All while it was snowing!

I’ve been thinking again today about Lehonti and how he refused to come down, but eventually was convinced to meet Amalickiah halfway. This is how Satan works with us. He just keeps at us. I love the opposite story of Nehemiah. He says “I’m doing a great work, so that I cannot come down.” What are your great works that you are doing now and in the future so you won’t be tempted by Satan? I invite you to read these two stories if you haven’t in a while.

I love you!💕

Semana 65 ( Be Thou an Example of the Believers)

Buenas!!!

This week started off great by doing a baptismal interview for Alberto! He is super awesome! His story is funny of how he got taught. A missionary named Elder Rodriguez played him in basketball 1v1, and he said that if he won, Alberto had to get baptized. Well, Elder Rodriguez won, Alberto got taught by the sisters, and then he passed his interview! Hype!

Almost every lesson we had this week fell through! It was crazy! We had a few great lessons, but wow it was insane how many things fell through this week!

I convinced a member I had 3 months in the mission. It was hilarious! I was pretending to not really understand him much, and he was talking to me like I was a child so I could understand. Then, when I started acting normal, he was so confused and shocked! It was soooooo funny!

Abdiel came to church again!! Whooohooo!

Miracle Moment! We taught a lady named Yorlenis on Saturday, and then invited her to church. She had a lot of questions, but she seemed interested! Then part way through sacrament she showed up with her two kids!

One of a missionary's biggest worries is that someone won't make friends with members, or not feel welcomed. But, another miracle occurred - she knows and is friends with one of the members! So they just hit it off, and the member was just explaining and showing her everything! Yorlenis also loved the class! At the end of church she said she felt this church was different, and that she wants to come back next Sunday! God is good!

The thought this week has to do with the miracle. Yorlenis said something to her member friend at the end of class. She said "Now, I know why you were always such a nice person," referring to the fact that she was a member/disciple of Christ.

I just stood in awe when I heard that! Truly as disciples of Christ we should be the best examples! Just as Paul wrote to Timothy "be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity."

What we think, say, and do really matters! We have taken the name of Christ upon us, which means we have to take His example upon us as well! One member's example made the difference in another person's life!

So I invite you all to think and ponder on what I've said, and then work towards becoming a better "example of the believers!" Let your thoughts, words, and actions always be inspired by the example of Jesus Christ! Think and Be Celestial!

I love you all! Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving! Keep praying for my people! Until next week!

Semana 65

Elder Lutze,

I hope you had a great week! Praying for your new friends and their progress in the gospel!

I spent time with the youth Sunday Thursday and Saturday. Fireside Frozen and delivering Thanksgiving meals. Ellie and Mia played the lead roles- Elsa and Anna. They were amazing!🤩

I enjoyed our Emotional Resilience meeting on Wednesday and watching BYU women’s soccer on Saturday. They moved on to the Elite 8 against North Carolina.

I helped Dad in Primary on Sunday. I love Primary kids! ❤️

I love you! Have a great week!

Love,
Mom

My thought this week!

Demands of Discipleship Sister Sheri L. Dew, then a counselor in the Relief Society general presidency, taught: “‘Unto whom much is given much is required’ (D&C 82:3), and at times the demands of discipleship are heavy. But shouldn’t we expect the journey towards eternal glory to stretch us? We sometimes rationalize our preoccupation with this world and our casual attempts to grow spiritually by trying to console each other with the notion that living the gospel really shouldn’t require all that much of us. The Lord’s standard of behavior will always be more demanding than the world’s, but then the Lord’s rewards are infinitely more glorious—including true joy, peace, and salvation” (“We Are Women of God,” Ensign, Nov. 1999, 98). 28 Therefore, prepare ye the way of the Lord, for the time is at hand that all men shall reap a reward of their works, according to that which they have been—if they have been righteous they shall reap the salvation of their souls, according to the power and deliverance of Jesus Christ; and if they have been evil they shall reap the damnation of their souls, according to the power and captivation of the devil. https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/scriptures/bofm/alma/9?id=p28&lang=eng#p28

Holy Ghost and Personal Revelation 2.26.20 I urge you to stretch beyond your current spiritual ability to receive personal revelation. Nothing opens the heavens quite like the combination of increased purity, exact obedience, ernest seeking, daily feasting on the words of Jesus Christ in the Book of Mormon, and regular time committed to temple and family history work. To be sure there may be times when you feel as though the heavens are closed. But I promise that as you continue to be obedient, expressing gratitude for every blessing the Lord gives you, and as you patiently honor the Lord’s timetable, you will be given the knowledge and understanding you seek. Every blessing the Lord has for you, even miracles, will follow. That is what personal revelation will do for you. ~ President Nelson 3.5.20 Alma had seen an angel, but he testified in Alma 5:46–47 that it was fasting and prayer that had allowed him to come to know, not seeing an angel. President Heber J. Grant (1856–1945) explained: “Many men say: ‘If I could only see an angel, if I could only hear an angel proclaim something, that would cause me to be faithful all the days of my life!’ It had no effect upon these men [Laman and Lemuel] that were not serving the Lord, and it would have no effect today” (in Conference Report, Apr. 1924, 159). President Joseph Fielding Smith (1876–1972) explained why the Holy Ghost can be more powerful than a visitation of an angel: “Christ … declared that the manifestations we might have … from a visitation of an angel, a tangible resurrected being, would not leave the impression … which we receive through a manifestation of the Holy Ghost. Personal visitations might become dim as time goes on, but this guidance of the Holy Ghost is renewed and continued, day after day, year after year, if we live to be worthy of it” (Doctrines of Salvation, comp. Bruce R. McConkie, 3 vols. [1954–56], 1:44).     The spirit of revelation is communication from God to man by the power of the Holy Ghost to the mind and heart (see D&C 8:2). Elder Richard G. Scott of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles described how to recognize communication from the Holy Ghost: “An impression to the mind is very specific. “Detailed words can be heard or felt and written as though the instruction were being dictated. “A communication to the heart is a more general impression. The Lord often begins by giving impressions. Where there is a recognition of their importance and they are obeyed, one gains more capacity to receive more detailed instruction to the mind. An impression to the heart, if followed, is fortified by a more specific instruction to the mind” (“Helping Others to Be Spiritually Led” [Church Educational System symposium on the Doctrine and Covenants, Aug. 11, 1998], 3–4; see LDS.org under gospel library/additional addresses/CES addresses). 46 Behold, I say unto you they are made known unto me by the Holy Spirit of God. Behold, I have fasted and prayed many days that I might know these things of myself. And now I do know of myself that they are true; for the Lord God hath made them manifest unto me by his Holy Spirit; and this is the spirit of revelation which is in me. https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/scriptures/bofm/alma/5?id=p46&lang=eng#p46

Semana 64 (Always Remember Me!)

Buenas!!

This week was absolutely fantastic! So here are the highlights!

Tuesday I went to Hato Montana to do a bunch of interviews! I had the privilege to meet Regina, Guillermo, and Santana! They all are so amazing! I really felt the spirit when Regina shared with me an experience she had once. She said

"One day my hand was in a lot of pain, so my husband went to go get medicine from the pharmacy. While he was gone the pain got worse and worse! So I started to pray, asking God not to abandon me. I hadn't prayed or gone to a church in a very long time. But I remember, when I prayed, hearing a soft voice say to me, "Always remember me." I looked back and didn't see anyone there. And in that moment I knew I had to find God."

This story was crazy powerful! God really does prepare His people!

Taught a little girl named Abby and she wants to get baptized! It was quite an interesting lesson though. We were explaining the Holy Ghost, and asked her if she had ever felt happy before! She said no. She's 8. It was one of the saddest things I've seen. But, it makes sense. Her dad's side of the family is a bit crazy. Essentially they practice witchcraft on her, she sees demons, and her dolls move and dance around at night. Please pray for her!

Had the worst lesson of my life. I am not exaggerating. What happened is so bad that I can't write about it. Low-key have a bit of PTSD now, but I'll get over it.

Had a really fun exchange with Elder Pineda! We also ate with a really cool family and other missionaries! THE FOOD WAS TO DIE FOR!!! They made broccoli soup, garlic bread, lasagna, and the best part, apple pie with ice cream. If there's anything I miss from the states, food is definitely a big one!

Saturday we got to go support Regina, Guillermo, and Satana in their baptisms! Elder Stapley and I also had the privilege of baptizing! I got to baptize Regina, and I was beyond happy for her! She is so amazing!

Sunday was amazing! We were sad, at first, because we went by Melardo to pick him up and he couldn't come. But, as we were sitting, in the chapel we looked out the window and saw Abdiel! We literally ran so fast to go greet him! And the other miracle family showed up! And it was so amazing! Then later that day we had a really good lesson and put 4 people on date to be baptized! So it was a great day!

My thought for the day is about charity! Charity is the pure love of Christ. I've been thinking a lot about how Christ showed His love to people. And the more I thought of it the more I realized that most of the time he showed His love to others was through action! Not just by saying nice words to people, but serving them! So that's my challenge for all of you! If you want to better show your love for someone, do it by action! Serve them! You will feel really happy in doing so, I promise!

Anyways. Love you all lots! Have a great week! Keep praying for my people! Until Next Week!

Semana 64

Dear Elder Lutze,

We hope your week has gone extremely well! Keep up the work of change in yourself and others!

This week was unusually busy. Our new furnace and AC are in…. Thank goodness! It’s getting cold.

I met up with a few different friends throughout the week… Jill, Suzy, Tricia, and Sherrene and later with Lisa. I enjoyed connecting with all of them.

Dad and I went to see Elf: The Musical. We loved it! I really enjoyed the temple this week. I went to the Draper Temple since Mt Timpanogos is closed for 2 weeks.

I’ve been working on my blog and enjoying the re-read of all my notes from Israel. I’m so grateful Dad and I had that opportunity to see Israel 🇮🇱 together.

I love you!

❤️ Mom

I hope you like these quotes!

Change their hearts… Gerald Lund said we could exchange the word “heart” for “The real or inward person”    The power of the word… their souls were illuminated (v 7), and their souls did expand. (v 9)  Conversion is changing… changing over and over again.    Alma talks about this mighty change in v 11-12. The change in the heart of his father.  What was required for change? The word of God – Scripture, the word of God meaning Prophetic. Faith and belief in Jesus Christ.     He goes through a list of questions with his people…     President Benson… Born of God – November 1985

Yes, Christ changes men, and changed men can change the world.  Men changed for Christ will be captained by Christ. Like Paul they will be asking, “Lord, what wilt thou have me to do?” (Acts 9:6.) Peter stated, they will “follow his steps.” (1 Pet. 2:21.) John said they will “walk, even as he walked.” (1 Jn. 2:6.)  Finally, men captained by Christ will be consumed in Christ. To paraphrase President Harold B. Lee, they set fire in others because they are on fire. (Stand Ye in Holy Places, Salt Lake City: Deseret Book Co., 1974, p. 192.)  Their will is swallowed up in His will. (See John 5:30.)  They do always those things that please the Lord. (See John 8:29.)  Not only would they die for the Lord, but more important they want to live for Him.  Enter their homes, and the pictures on their walls, the books on their shelves, the music in the air, their words and acts reveal them as Christians.  They stand as witnesses of God at all times, and in all things, and in all places. (See Mosiah 18:9.)  They have Christ on their minds, as they look unto Him in every thought. (See D&C 6:36.)  They have Christ in their hearts as their affections are placed on Him forever. (See Alma 37:36.)  Almost every week they partake of the sacrament and witness anew to their Eternal Father that they are willing to take upon them the name of His Son, always remember Him, and keep His commandments. (See Moro. 4:3.)

Alma 5:7 Behold, he changed their hearts; yea, he awakened them out of a deep sleep, and they awoke unto God. Behold, they were in the midst of darkness; nevertheless, their souls were illuminated by the light of the everlasting word; yea, they were encircled about by the bands of death, and the chains of hell, and an everlasting destruction did await them.

1 Thessalonians 1:5 For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake.

Be of Good Cheer~Be a Cork If we are entirely dependent upon God, then He can take our limitations and our weaknesses and magnify them into strengths useful for His divine purposes. Elder Richard G. Scott of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles encouraged us to cheerfully rely on the Lord when we face the challenges of mortality: “Problems or trials in our lives need to be viewed in the perspective of scriptural doctrine. Otherwise they can easily overtake our vision, absorb our energy, and deprive us of the joy and beauty the Lord intends us to receive here on earth. Some people are like rocks thrown into a sea of problems. They are drowned by them. Be a cork. When submerged in a problem, fight to be free to bob up to serve again with happiness. … “The Lord is intent on your personal growth and development. That progress is accelerated when you willingly allow Him to lead you through every growth experience you encounter, whether initially it be to your individual liking or not. When you trust in the Lord, when you are willing to let your heart and your mind be centered in His will, when you ask to be led by the Spirit to do His will, you are assured of the greatest happiness along the way and the most fulfilling attainment from this mortal experience. If you question everything you are asked to do, or dig in your heels at every unpleasant challenge, you make it harder for the Lord to bless you [see 1 Nephi 3:7]” (in Conference Report, Apr. 1996, 32–33; or Ensign, May 1996, 24–25).

Mosiah 24:13 And it came to pass that the voice of the Lord came to them in their afflictions, saying: Lift up your heads and be of good comfort, for I know of the covenant which ye have made unto me; and I will covenant with my people and deliver them out of bondage.

Semana 63 (You're Not Welcome Here!)

Buenas!!

We started off the week buying a bunch of emergency food. So now we just have a ton of food in our house that we most likely will never use!

We continued teaching Melardo, he is so amazing! He told me and Elder Stapley that we are like his family here in Panamá! And we always bring him more friends and that we are the only ones who visit him. I almost cried... almost!

A lady prayed in tongues... that was interesting!

Had a guy yell at us "YOU'RE NOT WELCOME HERE!" But his bad English and Spanish accent made it super, super funny 😂

That same day a really drunk woman bashed at us for about 15 minutes. She didn't think we were missionaries or that we were as young as we said. She was something else!

Did service at a member's house! His name is Luis. He is incredibly smart! And I had a fun time just talking about the gospel and science topics! It was awesome! He also speaks really good English!

A dog almost killed me this week too! (Not the dog in the pictures). We were walking to a house, and I saw a dog sprinting around a car showing its teeth at me. Right as it went to bite me I smacked it in the face with my Book of Mormon and then kicked it in the face! I then just stared at it and said "YOU'RE NOT WELCOME HERE!" The dog left, and Elder Stapley and I were just laughing. Sorry to all those who love dogs, I didn't want to die! 😂

The week was super great! Lots of teaching and finding! And just trying to help the area grow! Sadly Melardo and Abdiel couldn't come to church this week, but next week for sure!!

My thought this week comes from Galatians 5:16

"Walk in the spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh."

I've talked about this a lot lately, but it's important! God wants me to know it, and all of you. But we have to do all we can to have the spirit with us!! We need to draw ourselves closer to God! We need to become more celestial! And it's all done by having the Spirit with us. So do what is necessary to have the Spirit with you! It takes work! But it's worth it! Every aspect of your life will grow and become better if you have more influence from the Spirit with you!

Love you all! Have a great week! Please pray for my people!! Until Next Week!

Semana 63

Dear Elder Lutze,

We are praying and fasting for you and the Panama mission - that the riots will stop and you can get back to your regular work rhythm.

We’ve had a fun week - furnace died, battery on the  van needs to be replaced. The new furnace / AC is $15,000. I guess it’s the year to replace everything the roof, the water softener and now the furnace/ AC. It has lasted a really long time!

Halloween with the grandkids was super fun.
We also had dinner groups on Friday. We had a great time visiting with the Millers, Dyers, and Hardins. I’ve never heard Bro Hardin speak so much. 😂

Thought from my scriptures this week. I’ve loved reading the Book of Mormon in a short time frame. I truly see how much our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ love us. It is for our day!

Truth

I loved this book . My Name Used to be Mohammed Tito Momen. He talks about the Book of Mormon in his conversion.

Elder Bruce R. McConkie (1915–85) of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles indicated how people who murmur against revealed truth shall learn new doctrines: “Such is the purpose of the Book of Mormon. Members of false churches who err in spirit, who think they have the truth, are brought by the Book of Mormon to the fulness of the gospel. Those who have based their beliefs on isolated verses and obscure passages, and who have wondered and murmured at seeming biblical conflicts, come to learn sound doctrine. No longer do they worry about the atonement, salvation by grace alone, infant baptism, the priesthood, the gifts of the Spirit, the passages about an apostasy, a gospel restoration, and the gathering of Israel. All things fall into place because of this new witness for Christ and his gospel” (The Millennial Messiah [1982], 174–75). 35 They also that erred in spirit shall come to understanding, and they that murmured shall learn doctrine. https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/scriptures/bofm/2-ne/27?id=p35&lang=eng#p35

President Ezra Taft Benson (1899–1994) taught how we can recognize the great worth of the Book of Mormon: “Each of the major writers of the Book of Mormon testified that he wrote for future generations. … “If they saw our day and chose those things which would be of greatest worth to us, is not that how we should study the Book of Mormon? We should constantly ask ourselves, ‘Why did the Lord inspire Mormon (or Moroni or Alma) to include that in his record? What lesson can I learn from that to help me live in this day and age?’ … “… In the Book of Mormon we find lessons for dealing with persecution and apostasy. We learn much about how to do missionary work. And more than anywhere else, we see in the Book of Mormon the dangers of materialism and setting our hearts on the things of the world. Can anyone doubt that this book was meant for us and that in it we find great power, great comfort, and great protection?” (in Conference Report, Oct. 1986, 5–6; or Ensign, Nov. 1986, 6–7).

2 And the things which shall be written out of the book shall be of great worth unto the children of men, and especially unto our seed, which is a remnant of the house of Israel. https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/scriptures/bofm/2-ne/28?id=p2&lang=eng#p2

We are the Hissers

President Ezra Taft Benson proclaimed the need for members of the Church to actively declare the truths of the Restoration. By so doing, we become the “hissers” spoken of in 2 Nephi 29:2–3: “Our main task is to declare the gospel and do it effectively. We are not obligated to answer every objection. Every man eventually is backed up to the wall of faith, and there he must make his stand. … “The Book of Mormon is to be used ‘for a standard unto my people, which are of the house of Israel,’ the Lord says, and its words ‘shall hiss forth unto the ends of the earth.’ (2 Ne. 29:2.) We, the members of the Church, and particularly the missionaries, have to be the ‘hissers,’ or the tellers and testifiers, of the Book of Mormon unto the ends of the earth. “The Book of Mormon is the great standard we are to use. … The Book of Mormon is the great finder of the golden contact. It does not contain things which are ‘pleasing unto the world’ (1 Ne. 6:5). … It is a great sieve” (in Conference Report, Apr. 1975, 95–96; or Ensign, May 1975, 65).

President Gordon B. Hinckley shared the following example of how the Book of Mormon changed a life forever: “[The Book of Mormon] has touched for good the lives of millions who have prayerfully read it and pondered its language. May I tell you of one such I recently met in Europe. “He was a businessman, successful in his undertakings. In the course of his travels he met two of our missionaries. They tried to set up an appointment to teach him. He put them off but finally agreed to listen. He somewhat perfunctorily accepted what they had to say. He became convinced in his mind that they spoke the truth, but he was not moved in his heart. “He decided that he would read the Book of Mormon. He said that he had been a man of the world, never given to crying. But as he read the book, tears coursed his cheeks. It did something to him. He read it again and felt the same emotions. What had been conversion of the mind became conversion of the heart. “His way of life was altered, his perspective changed. He threw himself into the work of the Lord. Today he fills a high and holy calling in the cause he has come to love” (in Conference Report, Oct. 1990, 70; or Ensign, Nov. 1990,52).

2 And also, that I may remember the promises which I have made unto thee, Nephi, and also unto thy father, that I would remember your seed; and that the words of your seed should proceed forth out of my mouth unto your seed; and my words shall hiss forth unto the ends of the earth, for a standard unto my people, which are of the house of Israel; https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/scriptures/bofm/2-ne/29?id=p2&lang=eng#p2

I love you! Keep working hard to the very end. You will never regret it!

Love,
